Mr Min They arrived by train at Kowleen between 7 and 7.30 p..

There was a party of about 400. They were sent back fren Taipo,

having been collected from the neighbourhood. At 7.30 a.m. on the

3rd.inst.,368 strikere were found and detained at the junction of

the Loung Seung valley and the Taipe Road, I presume they spent the

night on the hill. They were detained and marched back te Talpe

market.

certain instructions on the situation?

Mr.Fing. Yes, I received ther from the Captain Superintendent of

Pelion: that,in view of the general situation, I was to apply direct

to the Commanding Officer of the 102nd Grenadiers for troops if I

considered I needed them for my assistance,

His "ership. With reference to this particular incident,when did

you receive the first infœmation as to the gathering of the crowd?

Mr.King. Daring the 24 hours of March 2nd I received three

seperate intimations that a gathering was going to take place. One

conversation pat the number at 2000. The crowd was to move out of

Younati overland to the border, Piret I instructed the Divisional

Inspecter at Tamanti to hava detectives out and to keep me fully

posted as to any such assemblage or movement. At 11.45 p.4. I

accompanied Captain Blexham and Captain Crawford and 50 men of the

10204 Grenadiers to the junction of the Castle Peak and Taipo reads.

I posted them thera with instructions to stop any such crowd and te

cemunionte with me at once. I also posted a Sub-Inspecter of Police

to the detachment, Mr.Melfurray,who lives in the house at this
